A website is operating called messagesolicitors.com which claims to provide a search engine facility for members of the public to search and contact solicitors directly.
What is the scam?
The SRA has received information that details of certain genuine firms of solicitors appearing on the website contain inaccurate information about the solicitors and their firms and have been posted without their knowledge or consent.
The Message Solicitors website contains a 'Find a Solicitor' service, where members of the public are invited to search for solicitors on the site's directory and then send an enquiry to those solicitors by sending a message to them through the website. In order to send a message, members of the public are required to provide their personal information and create an account with Message Solicitors, giving their name, address, email address and a password.
The SRA has received information from several firms that their details appear on the website and are being used without their consent or knowledge. The details published on the site are reported by these firms as often containing inaccurate information and have been used without their consent.
