Managing Partner, Head of Department for Civil & Personal Injury

Jan is Managing Partner and Head of the Civil Litigation and Personal Injury Department.

After studying law at the University of Lancaster, followed by the solicitors' finals course and examination at the College of Law, York, time spent in banking in London, Jan joined P&B in 1991, as a Trainee Solicitor. Jan was made a Partner in 2000 and has been with the firm for 35 years.

Expertise

Jan undertakes all aspects of personal injury work, and general civil litigation. She is experienced in undertaking matters on a Conditional Fee Agreement basis, and to take matters to Trial, if necessary. The ethos of the firm is to obtain the best rehabilitation for clients, and we have arrangements with rehabilitation providers, and have a register of experts, in all areas. Jan has acted for hundreds of local clients, and obtained millions of pounds worth of compensation for them.

Jan is a member of the Law Society's Personal Injury Panel, an accreditation for the most experienced Personal Injury Lawyers. She is also a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. We have a dedicated personal injury and civil litigation team, which is unusual for a regional firm. We have personal relationships with experienced Barristers Chambers, to assist clients in bringing their claims. We are also able to offer After the Event Insurance.

As Managing Partner, Jan has undertaken training for being COFA and COLP. Over the years, Jan has been Head of all of the departments in the firm. Having a background in finance, she has taken her Law relating to Banking exams. Jan represents the firm at the Managing Partners' Forum, run my Manchester Law Society. With the Partners, Jan ensures the financial stability of the firm, and security of employment, for the 45 people who work at the firm.

Pickering & Butters has an ethos of being involved with the community, in the local areas of Stafford and Rugeley. Jan was a founder member of The Rotary Club of Stafford Knott, was Chair of Governors of St. Paul's School (securing an Outstanding Ofsted Inspection), was a Trustee of Katharine House Hospice (specialising in finance), and is a gold blood donor, for people in the local area.

My happiest memory is ...

Travelling with my girls, and we have visited every continent. I am a dedicated Rolling Stones' fan, and love to see them live. Being a Geordie, I also watch Newcastle United whenever I can, but that is not, always, such a joyous experience!
